Terms and Conditions

The agreement between you and us

Last updated: 20 August 2026

The short version: Wordrealm is a vocabulary app for children aged about 9–11, run by a UK company. A grown-up holds the account and pays; children use it with your permission. Some of it is free forever. You can cancel at any time, in two clicks, and you'll never be charged after you do. If you change your mind within 14 days of paying, you get your money back. The rest of this page is the detail — it's written to be readable, not to catch you out.

1. Who we are

Wordrealm is operated by Wordrealm Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 17356720, registered office 71-75 Shelton Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9JQ, United Kingdom.

We are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (data protection registration C2008727).

"We", "us" and "our" mean Wordrealm Limited. "You" means the adult who holds the account.

2. What these terms cover

These terms are the agreement between you and us for your use of the Wordrealm website and app. By creating an account you accept them. If you don't accept them, please don't create an account.

Our Privacy Policy explains what we do with your and your child's information, and forms part of this agreement. Please read it — it matters more than usual here, because children are involved.

3. Who can use Wordrealm

  • The account holder must be 18 or over and a parent, guardian or carer of the child or children using it.
  • Children don't hold accounts. You create a profile for your child inside your account. Your child never gives us an email address, never sets a password of their own, and cannot make any payment in the app.
  • You're responsible for what happens on your account, including your child's use of it. Please supervise younger children as you'd expect to.
  • One account is for one household. Please don't share your login outside it.

4. Your account

Give us accurate details, keep your password to yourself, and tell us promptly if you think someone else has got into your account. We'll always send account emails to the address you registered with, so keep it current.

5. What's free and what's paid

Free, with no card and no time limit: the first three Word Quests (around 45 words), seven story worlds, the daily warm-up and streaks, the avatar builder and My Words album, the placement quiz, and dyslexia-friendly reading mode.

Premium unlocks the full 1,000-word course, every story world, timed challenges, the Tricky Words and Super Mix revision quests, progress reports and the weekly email, and more than one child on the account.

The current plans and prices are:

Annual£79.99 per year

Renews each year until you cancel.

7-day free trial

Monthly£9.99 per month

Renews each month until you cancel.

7-day free trial

Exam-Year Pass£99 once

12 months' access, paid once. Not a subscription — nothing renews, no card is kept, and there is nothing to cancel.

No trial

Founding Families£49.99 per year

The same as Annual at a lower price, locked for as long as you stay subscribed. Limited to the first 100 families.

7-day free trial

All prices are in pounds sterling and include VAT where it applies. The price shown on the Premium page at the moment you buy is the price that applies.

6. Free trials

Annual, Monthly and Founding Families each start with a 7-day free trial.

  • You give card details when you start the trial, but nothing is taken during it.
  • When the 7 days end, the plan starts and your card is charged automatically, unless you've cancelled before then.
  • Cancel at any point during the trial and you pay nothing at all.
  • One trial per household. If you've had a trial before, starting another plan begins — and charges — straight away.
  • The Exam-Year Pass has no trial, because it isn't a subscription. You pay £99 once and get 12 months.

Stripe, who handle our payments, will email you before a trial ends. Please don't rely on that alone — put a reminder in your phone if you're only trying it out.

7. Payment

Payments are taken by Stripe, a regulated payment provider. We never see or store your card details — they go straight to Stripe.

By subscribing, you authorise us (through Stripe) to charge your card the plan price on each renewal date, until you cancel. Renewals continue automatically: annual plans each year, monthly plans each month.

If a payment fails, Stripe will retry it and email you. If it keeps failing, Premium access stops. Your child's progress, words learned and coins are not deleted — they're waiting if you come back.

8. If we change the price

We can change our prices. If we change the price of a plan you're already on, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel before then if you don't want to continue at the new price.

Founding Families is the exception, and it's a promise: your £49.99 a year is locked for as long as you stay subscribed without a break. If you cancel and come back later, the offer is gone.

9. Cancelling

On any subscription plan, go to the Premium page in the app and press "Manage or cancel subscription". That opens Stripe's own billing page, where you can cancel in one more click. You can also email billing@wordrealm.co.uk and we'll do it for you.

When you cancel:

  • You keep everything you've paid for until the end of the period you've paid for — the app will show you the exact date, and it will say "Access until" rather than "Renews on", so you can see the difference.
  • You won't be charged again.
  • After that date the account returns to the free plan. Nothing your child earned is taken away — progress, mastered words, Realm Coins and anything bought with them all stay.
  • Change your mind before the end date and you can simply un-cancel; billing carries on as before.

On the Exam-Year Pass there is nothing to cancel. It was bought outright, runs for 12 months and then simply stops. No card is kept and no charge is coming.

10. Your right to change your mind (14 days)

If you're a consumer in the UK, you have a legal right to cancel a contract made online within 14 days, without giving a reason.

How we apply it, in plain terms: if you tell us within 14 days of a payment being taken that you want to cancel, we will refund that payment in full — including the £99 Exam-Year Pass, and including the first charge after a free trial ends.

We do this even where we might be entitled to charge you for the days you'd already used, because we'd rather you left happy than argued with. Email billing@wordrealm.co.uk and say you want to cancel; you don't need to explain why, and you don't need to use a special form.

Refunds go back to the card you paid with, normally within 5 working days of us agreeing it, and always within 14 days.

11. Refunds after the first 14 days

See our Refund and Cancellation Policy for the detail. In short: after 14 days we don't give refunds for part-used periods — you keep access until the end of what you've paid for, and it then stops. That doesn't affect your legal rights if something is actually wrong with the service (see section 15).

12. Realm Coins and things bought with them

Realm Coins are the in-app reward your child earns by learning. They matter for motivation, so please read this bit:

  • Realm Coins cannot be bought with real money. There is no way to spend money on coins in Wordrealm, at any price, ever. They are only earned by doing the learning.
  • Coins have no cash value, can't be exchanged for money, and can't be transferred between accounts or children.
  • Things bought with coins — story worlds, characters, looks, themes — stay unlocked for that child on that account. We do not take away things your child has paid coins for.
  • We may add new things to earn or buy, and may change how many coins an activity gives, as we improve the game balance.
  • Coins and unlocked items end when the profile or account is deleted.

13. The AI-written stories

Wordrealm's stories are written by an AI (a large language model) around your child's name, age, interests and choices. Two honest points:

  • They're generated fresh, so they're never identical twice, and we can't show you every story in advance.
  • We filter them, in more than one way: the AI is instructed to write for 9–11 year olds, its output is checked automatically for anything unsuitable before it reaches your child, and separately checked for whether the target word has been used correctly. The word your child is actually tested on is always one we wrote by hand, not one the AI made up.

No automatic filter is perfect. If a story ever contains something you're not happy with, please tell us at hello@wordrealm.co.uk — send the child's name and roughly when it happened and we can find it. We take that seriously and act on it.

14. Using Wordrealm properly

Please don't: share your account outside your household; try to break, overload or get round the security of the app; copy, scrape or republish our words, definitions, stories or artwork; use the app to break the law; or attempt to get the AI to produce something inappropriate.

We may suspend or close an account that does these things. If we do, and you'd paid for a period you can no longer use, we'll refund the unused part — unless the reason was serious enough that we consider it unfair to do so.

15. If something's wrong

We must supply the service with reasonable care and skill, and the digital content must be as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality. This is the law (the Consumer Rights Act 2015) and nothing on this page takes it away.

If Wordrealm isn't working as it should, email hello@wordrealm.co.uk and tell us. We'll try to fix it. If we can't fix it within a reasonable time, you're entitled to an appropriate reduction in price or, in some cases, a refund.

16. Availability

We aim to keep Wordrealm running, but we can't promise it will never be unavailable. We may need to take it down for maintenance or updates, and things outside our control (an internet outage, a supplier's failure) can interrupt it.

We may add, change or remove features as the app develops. If we remove something significant that you're paying for, we'll tell you, and you can cancel and get back the unused part of what you've paid.

We may stop offering Wordrealm altogether. If we do, we'll give you reasonable notice and refund the unused part of anything you've paid.

17. Who owns what

Everything in Wordrealm — the word bank, the definitions and example sentences, the artwork, the characters, the name and logo, the software — belongs to us or our licensors. Your subscription is permission for your household to use it, not ownership of it.

The stories generated for your child are yours to enjoy and keep. Please don't publish or sell them commercially.

18. Our responsibility to you

We're responsible for loss you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking this agreement or failing to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss that isn't foreseeable.

We don't limit our liability in any way the law doesn't allow — including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for breaking your legal rights as a consumer.

Wordrealm is a learning aid. It is not a guarantee of any exam result, and the Readiness score is our own honest estimate of how the vocabulary is going — not a predicted 11+ mark. We can't be responsible for exam outcomes.

Otherwise, and only where the law allows it, our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before the problem arose.

19. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from the parent dashboard. That permanently deletes your account and your children's profiles and progress — it cannot be undone, and we can't recover it afterwards. If you're on a paid plan, cancel that first, or you may keep being charged for a subscription you can no longer use.

We can end this agreement by giving you 30 days' notice, or immediately if you seriously break these terms. If we end it without you being at fault, we'll refund the unused part of anything you've paid.

20. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms — for example if we add features or the law changes. If a change affects you significantly, we'll email you at least 30 days before it takes effect, and you can cancel if you don't accept it. The date at the top of this page always shows when it last changed.

21. Complaints, and the law that applies

Please email hello@wordrealm.co.uk first — most things are quicker to sort out directly, and we'd rather know.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales will deal with any dispute. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your own courts. Nothing here affects your rights under the consumer law of the country you live in.
